’73 Challenger

Extracted from a barn in Southern Illinois from the original owner. Here is the result of a 2.5 year restoration.

’73 Dodge Challenger 340 Triple Black Rally.  Fender Tag and Broadcast sheet. 2 owner car. This car came from the original owner out of a barn in Southern Illinois. He bought it of the dealer show floor. The car was very complete and unmolested but very rough. Now restored to show condition. Here are the before, progress and after pictures. This car has been in the restoration process for over two years. We recently had the original owner up to see his first car. Restoration extremes include a base clear drive shaft, rear end, engine and trans. Re-chromed Side Mirrors, front and rear bumpers. the Original AM/FM Radio is still in the car. The Original Magnum 500 Wheels and the original Rubber the car came on you can see in some of the restoration before pictures. Although difficult to see in the pictures  some of the many options on the loaded up fender tag are flat black strobe stripes on the side on the car, rear window defrost and map lights. Dual Chrome Side Mirrors.

 

Restoration notes.

As you can see from the pictures the car was taken apart and put back together. New Gas tank and sending unit, restoration correct battery, New front and side glass, side windows were replaced with correct factory tint as per fender tag. New vinyl top, New headliner, New carpet, New Rear Package Tray. New tti exhaust, new Craiger wheels and BF Goodrich 14″ tires, This car is an AC car but the system was not installed after restoration.  Original AM/FM radio still in the car. 3:91 posi( Factory)…. slapstick auto shifter was replaced with a Gunslinger Pistol Grip. New brakes, master cylinder, rotors, bearings etc.  All Exterior stainless was polished professionally, bumpers where re-chromed to show quality.  Motor  had 10k on a complete rebuild when I got it so I am told however I did  a refresh re-build:  New Holley carb with electric Choke, belts/hoses paint etc. the trans has 2k on the rebuild so I am told. The engine has Mickey Thompson Valve Covers and Edelbrock aluminum intake. factory exhaust manifolds painted to factory cast color.  Restoration correct battery. 

Car was painted Base clear, wet sanded and buffed, paint is mirror gloss. New Vinyl top obviously, car had solid floors and trunk,  did have some small patches welded in the 1/4’s. Underside of car was striped and repainted. Including the rear-end with base clear then we  detailed brake lines. Fast fun car to drive.  Yes I put ’72 rear bumper brackets on to suck in the rear bumper, I did not care for the bumper filler panels or the rubber bumperets. 

Engine Update on 8-26-04:
In addition to the Head job, cam and lifters I did I can also say that the motor has a new crank, bearings throughout, rings, distrubutor.  intermediate shaft brass bushing, oil pump, timing chain set. I did verify that the motor was bored 30 over. hot tanked, new frost plugs,  Replaced the torque converter with a 2500 stall. Transmission was inspected and adjusted by a professional trans shop out of the car on the bench.

Acquisition and build costs $17,900
Rotisserie restored- this means all drivetrain and interior were restored and underside painted.
